Biography: Shankar Rajaram serves as the Engineering Manager – Rail Vehicles at Sound Transit. In this role, Dr. Rajaram manages the engineering aspects of the new LRV procurements. In addition, he also provides technical leadership to light rail noise and vibration engineering at Sound Transit and supports Link light rail projects.

One of the technical projects that he currently manages is a wheel/rail interaction study to understand the mechanics of independent rotating wheels and its relation to the details of rail shape, wheel shape, surface conditions, and vehicle components. This study is a collaborative effort between Sound Transit, NRC, ARM, VDG, and ATS.

Dr. Rajaram entered the transportation industry in 1998. He has a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Southern California. He has 14 years’ experience in the rail industry. He joined Sound Transit in 2014 and has served in several capacities over the last 4+ years. He is passionate about rail transit systems.
