Abstract:
WMATA’s Automated Track Analysis Technology and Data Leveraging for Maintenance Decisions
The human brain is the fastest computer on earth, but assistance from automation allows for consistent and exhaustive analysis on demand. User owned and operated automated track inspection technologies have been deployed at WAMTA since 2012, via its own Track Geometry Vehicle. WMATA will soon bolster the current technologies with continuous analysis abilities onboard a new fleet of revenue vehicles to enter service. These technologies collect a wealth of condition data and can be leveraged in the development of maintenance decisions. Analytics and the forecasting of track defects can lend to the optimization of maintenance actions and resources. Asset management software and decision support software have been implemented to assist WMATA in preforming data analytics, trending analysis, and the display of condition relationships, in order to help prioritize work.
