Abstract:

Planning and Executing an Effective Grinding Program: The North American Experience

North American transit systems possess varied levels of expertise and history with rail grinding. While it is clear that grinding on transit systems requires a different strategy than freight railroads it should also be noted each transit system may require a slightly different approach to grinding. This paper will highlight the basics of any transit grinding program as well as what should be considered to address the individual transit system’s needs. Steps can be taken at every step of the process from planning to execution and follow up which ensure the program is efficient and effective.
