Abstract:

Utah Transit Authority Approach to Asset Management

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has spent the last five years developing with Bentley Systems an asset management system that will meet the requirements of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP21) legislation. This presentation will explain the basics of asset management and how it relates to maintaining a State of Good Repair (SGR). It will cover the pyramid approach used by UTA and the elements in the pyramid. The development of this system has been a ͞bottom up͟ approach using a grassroots development model to ensure the needs of front line workers are being met. It will explain the electronic collection of inspections created by the front line staff and show examples of work that has been performed. It will cover the next steps in development of the system and how utilization of new technology has improve the reliability of data collected. The lessons learned during development of the system will be covered and discussed so others can avoid some of the challenges that UTA has faced.
