John Deppen
Director of Engineering
Amsted Rail
Biography: John Deppen is Director of Engineering for Amsted Rail with a primary focus on end-of-car coupling systems. These products include underframe draft sills, end-of-car hydraulic cushioning and draft gears.
During his 29 years at Amsted Rail, John has worked with customers in the development of improved cushioning performance and has served on various technical committees working with the Association of American Railroads and the Federal Railroad Administration to establish industry performance based standards. He holds several patents in the area of energy absorption and has published papers and participated on various industry forms.
John is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. He lives in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.
