Brad Hopkins, Ph.D.
Project Engineer, Condition Monitoring
Biography: Brad Hopkins is a Project Engineer in the Bogie Systems Condition Monitoring group at Amsted Rail. He holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has been working on track and railcar condition monitoring since 2010, with a focus on accelerometer-based monitoring and algorithm development. His current work includes broken rail detection, wheel defect monitoring, and end-of-car system monitoring. His additional research interests are vehicle dynamics, modeling and simulation, controls, and vibration analysis.
