Biography: Cameron P. Lonsdale is Vice President Research and Development for Amsted Rail’s Griffin Wheel division, with primary efforts focusing on process improvements and product development for railroad wheels and axles. Previously he held the position of Vice President – Technical for Standard Steel, LLC, the North American forged wheel and axle manufacturer, and worked at that firm for 10 years. Mr. Lonsdale was also employed by Conrail for more than 10 years and held various positions in the Engineering, Sales/Marketing and Transportation departments of that major U.S. railroad.
Mr. Lonsdale holds a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso, a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and a MBA from Saint Francis University. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 technical papers and presentations on various railroad industry subjects including wheel and axle processing and performance, rail welding, and railroad tool performance.
Mr. Lonsdale is a past Chairman of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Rail Transportation Division and is a member of the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Heavy Axle Load Engineering Research Committee (HALERC). He also served as an officer in the Ordnance Corps and Chemical Corps of the U. S. Army.
