Rhomberg Sersa Abstract:
Rail Milling in North America – applications and opportunities
For the first time in history RHOMBERG SERSA NORTH AMERICA is operating a LINSINGER rail milling machine in North America at transit systems to carryout milling services. Rail milling is a rotational cutting process that can reliably reset the rail to an initial, as new condition almost independent of the actual damage situation. With such a regenerative maintenance approach, premature rail exchange can be prevented and the rail life can be significantly extended.
Rhomberg Sersa is a full railway engineering service provider (headquartered in Austria and Switzerland) and offers an almost comprehensive range of railway construction, infrastructure and service products. Besides rail milling, Rhomberg Sersa provides rail grinding for transit systems, ballast cleaning for Class 1 and innovative service products (i.e. transition systems) for the North American market.
Rhomberg Sersa’s Infozone will discuss the high-performance rail milling technology and how it can be used in addition to already well established and proven maintenance approaches. By analysing the first successful application of this technology in North America as well as selected application examples from Europe, Asia and Australia the economic and technical benefits of this technology will be presented and highlighted. A special focus will be set on providing realistic comparison scenarios with other maintenance technologies. Furthermore, an outlook will be provided with respect to machine and rail milling service availability in North America.
